Is the Productivity of Faculty Members Sustainable? The Perspective of Faculty Members

In the global economic landscape, a nation’s ability to secure a prominent position is intricately linked to its capacity for knowledge augmentation and technological innovation. This correlation underscores the pivotal role of universities and academicians, whose importance directly reflects a country’s level of development. The effectual execution of educational, research, and innovative pursuits within university settings necessitates the presence of qualified, productive, and dedicated academicians. As key contributors to academic, social, and humanitarian spheres, academicians bear responsibilities spanning research, teaching, societal enlightenment, and problem solving within higher education. The scholarly productivity of researchers is commonly gauged through metrics involving scientific publications and academic engagements. Notably, in many countries, advancements and appointments within academic institutions are contingent on the demonstrated productivity of academicians. Aligning with this global trend, Turkey accordingly structures its promotion and appointment procedures within academia. This study aims to ascertain faculty members’ perspectives regarding academic productivity after their associate professors’ and professors’ appointments in Turkey. Furthermore, we endeavor to identify the underlying factors contributing to this decline and increase academic productivity. Our findings emphasize the intricate interplay of various factors influencing academic productivity and sustainability. These include the significance of institutional support, economic stability, intrinsic motivation, and challenges such as bureaucratic processes and gender-related issues, which collectively shape the academic landscape and faculty members’ ability to produce impactful research over time. The research study group comprised 20 faculty members working at a public University in Turkey in the 2022–2023 academic year. This study was prepared using a qualitative research model. This study used the interview technique, one of the data collection techniques used in process-based evaluation applications. Furthermore, the obtained data were analyzed using the content analysis technique used in qualitative research methods.

The Impact of Educational Investment on Economic Development in Society

This paper explores in depth how China's investment in education since the 21st century has had a significant impact on the country's economic development. With the advent of globalization and knowledge-based economy, education has become a key factor to promote social progress and enhance national competitiveness. This paper analyzes the financial support of the Chinese government in basic education, higher education and vocational and technical education, and examines the positive effects of these investments on the optimization of the labor market, scientific and technological innovation capacity and the overall economic structure. In future development, more attention should be paid to improving the per capita education level rather than merely pursuing quantitative expansion. This means that we must make reasonable policies to guide resources to poor areas and narrow the gap between urban and rural areas. Improving the continuing education system; Encourage enterprises to participate in vocational and technical training; And to strengthen the construction of teachers and curriculum reform and other soft power investment. Only such a comprehensive and in-depth education reform and development strategy can ensure the steady and rapid growth of the national economy while having the inherent resilience to resist external risks and challenges, and achieve sustainable prosperity in the true sense.

Accelerate the Promotion and Application of Commercial Cryptography Technology in The Automotive Industry

With the acceleration of the intelligent and networked process of the automobile industry, the problem of information security has become increasingly prominent. As the core guarantee means of information security, the promotion and application of commercial cryptography technology in the automobile industry is particularly important. In this paper, the application status and challenges of commercial cryptography technology in automobile industry are comprehensively analyzed, and the relevant strategies for promotion and application are put forward. By strengthening policy guidance, improving technological innovation capacity, promoting standardization construction and strengthening industry cooperation and exchanges, the aim is to accelerate the popularization and application of commercial cryptography technology in the automotive industry and improve the security protection capability of automotive information systems. The research of this paper is of great significance for promoting the construction of information security in automobile industry and promoting the rapid development of commercial cryptography technology.

Advertising expenditures and unobserved heterogeneity in bank performance: A conditional nonparametric frontier analysis

AbstractThis study utilizes a probabilistic production analysis framework to explore the relationship between advertising expenditure and operational efficiency in major U.S. banks (2001–2020). Findings reveal a non‐linear, positive correlation between advertising spending and banks' technological innovation capacity. Higher advertising investments enhance banks' competitiveness and drive technological progress. The model considers unobserved heterogeneity, incorporating factors like socio‐economic profiles and past non‐performing loans. Robustness analysis across sub‐periods confirms the enduring positive impact of advertising on bank performance.

Analysis and Exploration of Achievement Transformation Models in Chinese and Japanese Universities

 With the global economy entering the knowledge economy era, technological innovation has become the core driving force for the development of various countries. Only by transforming technological achievements into goods or services can their economic and social value be truly realized. Especially in developing countries like China, whether technological achievements can be quickly and effectively transformed into real productivity is of decisive significance for economic growth, industrial upgrading, and international competitiveness enhancement. The outline of China's 14th Five Year Plan proposes to accelerate the construction of a strong country in science and technology and enhance the country's capacity for scientific and technological innovation. Universities, as the main base for talent cultivation and the main force of the national scientific and technological innovation system, should become an important platform for achievement transformation. However, the conversion rate of patent achievements in Chinese universities has always been low. This article reviews and draws on Japan's experience and practices in promoting achievement conversion, and explores new models of achievement conversion that are suitable for China's national conditions.

How can urban economic complexity promote green economic growth in China? The perspective of green technology innovation and industrial structure upgrading

The essence of China's contemporary green economic transition is to enhance the capacity of the green production system, emphasizing regional technological and intellectual capabilities as the primary force of green economic growth (GEG). Economic complexity can reflect hidden regional production capacity, providing a new analytical tool for exploring GEG. Using a city–year panel dataset from 2000 to 2016, this study incorporates economic complexity and GEG into a unified research framework, adopting a fitness–complexity algorithm to measure Chinese urban economic complexity to empirically examine the influence and mechanisms of economic complexity on GEG. The results show that increased economic complexity promotes GEG by enhancing green technological innovation capacity and facilitating industrial structure upgrading, with one standard deviation increase in economic complexity followed by a 2.1% rise in GTFP. In addition, we emphasize the moderating effect of the government and the public, arguing that increased government environmental attention and public environmental concern reinforce the contribution of economic complexity. Finally, the findings reveal that public policies focusing on improving the economic complexity of low-complexity areas can strike a good balance between fairness and efficiency.

A mechanism for upgrading the global value chain of China's wood industries based on sustainable green growth

With climate change and increasingly fierce international trade competition, upgrading the global value chains (GVCs) under the sustainable development mode is becoming a key transformation for China's wood industry. This study applies system dynamics theory to build a model of upgrading and evolution of the GVC of the wood industry based on sustainable green growth and uses Vensim PLE software for system simulation. The results demonstrate that (1) under the framework of sustainable green growth, the optimization of industry structure and security of resource supply play an important role in promoting the position of the GVC. (2) improving technological innovation capacity, plantation forest stock, carbon emission reduction intensity, and wage growth is essential to upgrade the wood industry's position in the GVC. (3) different policy implementations have different impacts on the coupled and coordinated development of the system, and implementing innovation-driven policies is the optimal realization path to promote the synergistic upgrading of the GVC. The findings enrich the holistic and systematic study of the evolution of GVC upgrading in traditional manufacturing industries and provide a fresh perspective for assisting the wood industry in realizing GVC upgrading under a sustainable green growth model.

Assessing the Role of Mobile Applications in Improving Stoichiometry Understanding among Matriculation College Students: An Investigation

Mobile learning is anticipated to enrich learning experiences, enabling students to access educational content regardless of time or place. In light of the widespread use of smartphones for daily activities and ubiquitous mobile access to the internet, the mobile learning approach becomes feasible. The digital era has initiated significant transformations across various facets of contemporary life, with education being no exception. However, a persistent challenge lies in identifying suitable digital learning platforms and tools to effectively engage students in learning at their own pace, particularly in disciplines such as chemistry at Matriculation College. Chemistry, being a highly complex subject, demands abstract thinking and diverse problem-solving approaches. Computational Thinking (CT) emerges as a potential problem-solving technique in 21st-century learning that is applicable in teaching and learning chemistry. These skills are considered essential for enhancing the digital technology innovation capacity and should be nurtured among students. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to assess the current teaching and learning methods in chemistry and determine the necessity for a mobile learning application that introduces CT as a problem-solving technique among matriculation college students studying chemistry. Findings reveal that lecturers mainly use conventional teaching methods, incorporating blended learning through platforms such as YouTube for video lectures and the distribution of notes through messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram platforms. Notably, there is no standardized technique employed by lecturers in teaching chemistry problem-solving. However, all of them acknowledge the potential of mobile learning applications that integrate CT to effectively engage students in developing problem-solving skills, particularly in the context of solving stoichiometric problems.

The Spillover Effect of Foreign Direct Investment on China’s High-Tech Industry Based on Interprovincial Panel Data

Since its reform and opening-up, the scale of China’s utilization of foreign direct investment (FDI) has been expanding. Meanwhile, the “Belt and Road” initiative has opened up broader markets and trade opportunities for China. As a pillar industry supported by the state, the high-tech industry has also become an industry with more foreign investment. Therefore, based on the data of China’s high-tech industry from 2012 to 2021, this paper analyzes the technology spillover effect of foreign direct investment on the high-tech industry in the whole country as well as in the east, west, and northeast regions by using the C-D production function. The results show that in the eastern region, FDI has a positive spillover effect on the output and technological innovation of the high-tech industry; compared with the eastern region, FDI in the central and western regions inhibits technological innovation but has a positive effect on the output of the high-tech industry; in the northeastern region, FDI hampers the output of the high-tech industry but promotes the enhancement of the technological innovation capacity. The reason for this is that FDI is unevenly distributed in each region of China, and the absorption capacity of high-tech enterprises in each region is different from that of foreign direct investment. Finally, against the background of “Belt and Road”, this paper puts forward policy suggestions in light of the actual development situation of each region. China should strengthen the supervision of FDI to ensure the sustainability of foreign investment. All regions should give full play to their comparative advantages and deal with the balanced development of FDI and local factor inputs to realize the coordinated development of China’s regional economy.

Two-Way FDI assists agricultural sustainable development: Based on digitalization and greening perspectives.

With the new challenges and crises facing agriculture, digitalization and green transformation have become important ways to solve the problems. This paper uses an international economics perspective to chart a new path for sustainable agricultural development. Specifically, it analyzes whether two-way international direct investment (FDI) can facilitate agricultural digital-green fusion(DGF)? Using a sample of 31 provinces (autonomous regions) from 2012 to 2021, this study finds: (1) Two-way FDI can significantly contribute to agriculture's DGF. (2) In the mechanism test, it is proved that two-way FDI can promote agriculture's DGF level by promoting green technology innovation capacity and overall regional technology innovation capacity. (3) The positive effects of two-way FDI are prominent in the eastern and central regions, coastal regions, and economically developed areas. (4) In the spatial Durbin model, the local two-way FDI growth improves agriculture's DGF level in the surrounding areas to a certain extent. The government is advised to prioritize openness, foster an environment for technological innovation, leverage spatial radiation for agricultural DGF, and advance digitally empowered agricultural modernization.

Research on the Impact of Sci-Tech Finance on Industrial TFP

The improvement of industrial Total Factor Productivity (TFP) is the basis for the high-quality development of China’s economy. Sci-tech finance affects industrial TFP through screening and allocation mechanism, governance mechanism, and integration mechanism. Based on provincial panel data from 2009 to 2016, this paper constructs a comprehensive index of regional Sci-tech finance and explores the impact of Sci-tech finance on industrial TFP from two perspectives: differences in financial development levels and transmission paths. The results show that Sci-tech finance has a significant role in promoting the industrial TFP, but this promotion needs to meet certain financial development conditions. In high-level financial development areas, the promotion effect is significant. It is not linear. The effect is a threshold effect with the diminishing marginal efficiency. Sci-tech finance mainly promotes industrial TFP through boosting the industry’s scientific and technological innovation capacity. Policies and channels of Sci-tech finance to support science and technology innovation are put forward.

Study on the impact of regional carbon emissions on enterprise technological innovation under the background of low-carbon transformation in China

Low-carbon transition, as the backbone of corporate innovation drive, has an important strategic position globally. In order to avoid heterogeneous intercepts related to explanatory variables or interfering with each other, this paper empirically examines the impact of regional carbon emissions on corporate technological innovation and its mechanism based on the data of listed companies in China from 2009 to 2020, using a fixed-effects model. It is found that 1) the reduction of regional carbon emissions is favourable to corporate technological innovation; 2) in terms of the impact mechanism, the reduction of regional carbon emissions promotes corporate technological innovation by enhancing R&D investment and reducing financing constraints. 3) Based on the study of heterogeneity, it is found that: from the perspective of spatial distribution, regional carbon emissions show the phenomenon of “high on both sides and low in the middle”; state-owned enterprises refer to wholly state-owned enterprises, wholly state-owned companies and state-owned capital holding companies in which the State Council and the local people’s governments respectively perform the responsibilities of funders on behalf of the state. In terms of the nature of equity, compared with state-owned enterprises, regional carbon emissions have a greater impact on the technological innovation of non-state-owned enterprises. 4) Further analysis reveals that the low-carbon city pilot policy is conducive to regional carbon emission reduction. Through the comparison before and after the implementation of low carbon policy, this paper reliably verifies that the introduction of urban carpet policy is conducive to regional carbon emissions, and explores the issue of enterprise technological innovation from the perspective of low carbon transformation, providing theoretical support for the carbon emission reduction efforts and the improvement of the technological innovation capacity of different enterprises. At the same time, it fully affirmed the important role of regional carbon emissions, continued to deepen the process of green transformation of enterprises, and boosted the high-quality development of low-carbon enterprises.

Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Manufacturing Industry Global Value Chain Position

Using transnational panel data from 61 nations and regions from 2000 to 2019, this article empirically examines both the influence of artificial intelligence on the Global Value Chain as it pertains to the manufacturing industry and its mechanism of action. According to the report, AI significantly improves the industrial sector’s GVC position; this finding still holds after multiple robustness and endogeneity tests of the model. The findings of the heterogeneity test at the national level demonstrate that, in developing nations as opposed to developed countries, AI has a stronger impact on advancing the GVC position of the manufacturing industry. Heterogeneity tests at the industry level show that AI has a significant role in promoting the GVC of high, medium and low technology manufacturing industries. The mechanism test demonstrates three primary ways by which AI contributes to improving the GVC position of the manufacturing industry: by improving both production efficiency and technological innovation capacity, and by reducing trade costs. This study provides policy implications for the promotion of AI with respect to China’s manufacturing industry GVC position.

Study of the Impact of Trade Conflicts on Technological Innovation

This thesis utilizes cross-country panel data from Global Trade Alert and WTO databases, and adopts principal component analysis and dynamic panel system GMM estimation to conduct empirical research on the impact of trade conflicts on technological innovation. The results of the study show that trade conflicts are conducive to the improvement of the efficiency of technological innovation in each country, and the specific mechanism is that trade conflicts cause enterprises to lose their inherent market advantages and form the elimination system of the last-stage enterprises within the market to force them to carry out technological upgrading. As China is in a critical transition period from high-speed development to high-quality development, this thesis provides policy advice on how to improve China's technological innovation capacity through the implementation of trade policy.

Design Capability Evaluation and System Development for Power Transmission and Transformation Engineering

Power transmission and transformation engineering is a pivotal aspect of power grid construction and an important link to power grid planning. It holds substantial relevance to the economic to the economic, social, and environmental benefits of China’s power construction. Consequently, the design of power transmission and transformation engineering, as the source of power transmission and transformation project construction, holds notable importance. In this paper, the evaluation system of design capability for power transmission and transformation engineering was established from the dimensions of basic hard strength, design bearing capacity, result quality control, deviation control, and technological innovation capacity. The weight of the evaluation indicators of the design capacity of power transmission and transformation engineering is determined based on advanced design units and data analysis combined with expert experience. On this basis, the corresponding evaluation system of design capability was developed. The application of this system provided accurate basic data for the evaluation of design capabilities in power transmission and transformation engineering. The design capability assessment report issued can help provincial companies comprehensively evaluate the design capabilities of various design units, thereby promoting standardized management of design units.

The capacity for technological innovation and level of entrepreneurship in the students of the National University of Cañete

Introduction: Motivation is fundamental in this research that was carried out in the province of Cañete, Lima-Peru, with the purpose of finalizing the capacity for technological innovation that influences the level of entrepreneurship of the students of the Faculty of Business Sciences of the professional school of administration and accounting, knowing their skills and experiences when having or carrying out business ideas and the active participation of students in an incubator.Objective: This research seeks to analyze students in terms of their entrepreneurial skills and abilities in addition to identifying the role that teachers play in terms of encouraging and encouraging initiative behavior towards creativity and entrepreneurship.Method: This research work is quasi-experimental; it is to determine how the capacity for technological innovation influences the level of entrepreneurship of students at the National University of Cañete. Manage the type of control and compare with the experimental one. We worked with a population of 200 students, of which the questionnaire was applied to a sample of 80 students with 20 Likert-type items, handling 3 important dimensions with the independent variable.Results: There are 6 dimensions of which the high level of responses is managed (83.8%), being effective, presenting a better result in the experimental than the control with (41.3%). The limitations of the students focus on the level of entrepreneurship, the skills and attitudes of (88.8%), entrepreneurial capacity of (87.5%) and entrepreneurial experience of (81.3) in their levels of effectiveness.Conclusions: In conclusion, this research carried out in the province of Cañete, Lima-Peru, has shown that the capacity for technological innovation has a significant impact on the level of entrepreneurship of the students of the faculty of business sciences of the professional school of administration and accounting from the National University of Cañete. The findings highlight the importance of integrating technological innovation and entrepreneurship in higher education to prepare students for the business world and foster entrepreneurship in the next generation of professionals.

Analysis of Digital Transformation of E-commerce Enterprise Management and Enterprise Development Prospects Based on Carbon Neutral Targets

Abstract This paper introduces the green technology innovation capacity under the carbon neutral goal as the dependent variable and makes research hypotheses on the digital transformation of e-commerce enterprise management and enterprise development. The research hypotheses model between the three is constructed by both quantile regression and multivariate linear regression, and the panel threshold adjustment model between green technology innovation capacity, digital transformation and enterprise development is given. Empirical evidence is used to verify the relevant influencing factors of digital specialization and enterprise development of e-commerce enterprise management under the carbon neutral goal from multiple perspectives, including correlation test, benchmark regression, quantile regression, and panel threshold adjustment test. The results show that the correlation coefficients between the potential variables of the model are all below 0.1, suggesting a significant correlation. The 1% level showed significant differences in the ability to innovate green technologies, digital transformation of e-commerce enterprise management, and high-quality enterprise development. The single threshold value of green technology innovation capacity on the ability of e-commerce enterprises to manage digital transformation is 1.6829, and the double threshold value on the high-quality development of enterprises is 0.6572 and 1.6847, respectively. The green technology innovation capacity of e-commerce enterprises needs to be strengthened under the goal of carbon neutrality in order to promote the digital transformation and high-quality development of e-commerce enterprises.

Evaluation of the coordinated development of China’s Forest Resources-Economy-Environment System

Forests provide enormous ecological, economic, and social benefits, as such forest development should be oriented toward resource-economy-environment harmonization. This paper constructs a comprehensive evaluation index system and uses the coupled coordination degree model to measure the coordinated development level of China’s forest resources-economy-environment system. The results show that, across 2006‒2020, the level of coupled coordinated development of China’s forest resources-economy-environment composite system fluctuates in an upward trend, thus gradually developing from an initial imbalance to a high degree of coordination; the level of coordinated development of each subsystem of the forest resources, economy, and environment also shows an upward trend. The factors influencing the coordinated development of the forest resource-economy-environment system are, in order, the government’s financial capacity, market environment, scientific and technological innovation capacity, level of economic development, and strength of policy implementation. Therefore, this paper proposes some measures to improve the coordinated development.

Relationship between the evaluation of agricultural scientific and technological innovation capacity and the influencing factors of green agriculture.

China has limited arable land area, and its output value is increased with enhanced agricultural inputs such as machinery, irrigation, fertilizers, and pesticides. However, this mode is accompanied by an increase in agricultural carbon emissions. With the aim to further examine the driving effect of scientific and technological innovation on economic growth and green agriculture, this study uses the Solow growth model coupled with the Cobb-Douglas production function and vector autoregressive models. Then, the agricultural scientific and technological innovation capacity in Guangdong Province during 2006-2020 is evaluated by using the contribution rate of agricultural scientific and technological progress (ASTP) as the assessment index. In addition, the carbon footprints of green agricultural indexes such as machinery, irrigation, fertilizers, and pesticides are measured to analyze the relationship between green agriculture and agricultural scientific and technological innovation capacity. Results demonstrate the gradual increase in the contribution rate of ASTP in Guangdong Province. During the 11th, 12th, and 13th Five-Year Plan periods, the rates were 65.09%, 65.94%, and 70.40%, respectively, indicating that the agricultural scientific and technological innovation ability constantly improved. Among the indexes of green agriculture, the carbon footprints of machinery have a significant impact on agricultural scientific and technological innovation, which is quickly transformed into machinery. Such innovation requires the driving force of science and technology itself, which have relatively significant and rapid effects. On the basis of the results, corresponding policy suggestions are proposed: increasing investments in scientific and technological innovation in the agricultural field, vigorously developing new energy-saving and emission reduction products and processes for fertilizers, and increasing the research and promotion of agricultural machinery. The proposed method provides good prospects for the development of agricultural production towards mechanization, intelligence, efficiency, and greenness.

A study on the impact of the carbon emissions trading policy on the mining industry based on Porter hypothesis

In order to take Chinese actions and contribute Chinese wisdom to the fight against global climate change, China launched the carbon emissions trading policy (CETP) in 2011, thereby accumulating advanced experience in utilizing market mechanisms to reduce CO2 emissions and help reduce pollution. Mining is an irreplaceable pillar industry of the national economy. In the context of China's economic development shifting from high-speed growth to high-quality development, there is an urgent need to promote green and low-carbon development in the mining industry. The mining industry consumes a lot of energy and generates a lot of carbon emissions during extraction and processing. The CETP, which is one of the important regulatory tools for reducing carbon, will certainly have a huge impact on the green, low-carbon development of the mining industry. We use relevant data from 31 provinces and regions in China from 2006 to 2019, takes the CETP introduced in 2011 in seven provinces and cities as a quasi-natural experiment, and applies the difference-in-difference model (DID) to explore the Porter effect of the CETP on the mining industry. The robustness of the predictions is measured using the placebo test, the test of the alternative variable, and the test of the exclusion of the relevant policies in the same period. The results show that the CETP significantly reduced the business performance of the mining industry and did not increase the green total factor productivity (GTFP) of the mining industry but increased the level of science and technology innovation (STI) in the pilot provinces. That is, the impact of the CETP on the mining industry is consistent with the weak Porter hypothesis. The study results show that improving the CETP will significantly promote the realization of China's mining industry's green, low-carbon, and high-quality development. The state should support and subsidize mining enterprises that meet environmental regulation standards and increase their motivation to protect the environment. The government should increase environmental enforcement to ensure the effective implementation of the CETP. Mining enterprises should promote scientific and technological innovation and enhance their technological innovation capacity.
